RedBlue WordPress Theme

RedBlue is a three column, widget ready, fixed width theme by Themey. I guess finding a suitable name for a theme is the biggest challenge for a developer, since designing it. May be that’s why Themey didn’t think any further and named it based on the two primary colours that is present throughout the theme.

First we are greeted with a Red-Blue artistic header design. The dropping red and blue flowers on top of the embossed blog header is a treat for the eyes. That is the positive side. The negative - it is hardcoded. To change the blog name and description on the header you need to edit the logo file. Ofcourse Themey has packed the theme with the necessary PSD files but newbies may find it difficult to use Photoshop.

Also notice the big buttons on the right of the header? Those are also hardcoded. But let me tell you, it is very easy to modify these stuff using Photoshop. No big deal at all. So don’t worry about it.

The two columns on the right serve the sidebar purpose. The extreme right one has the search box and blog roll while the to it’s left is the main sidebar with pages, categories and meta. Nothing much to brag about as you have seen these before too.

One thing I liked about this theme is the main contents section. Under the post heading is an embossed silver box with a light shadow that shows the meta information like post date, author name, comment count etc…Cool stuff. But I also noticed an issue. Themey might want to increase the width of this box a little more. In the screenshot below, checkout the right edge of the box. Outside the box there is a “>>” symbol clicking on which would take you to the comments pages. This symbol should have been within the box but unfortunately the long words inside the box pushed it outside.

Coming down to the footer, we notice a reddish footer art (no blue this time). A pretty good splash effect marks the end of the blog.

To sum up, the artistic work outshines the coding work on the blog. The layout and text positioning are ordinary but themey has come up with a nice blend of colours, header and footer graphics to impart a professional look to the otherwise ordinary theme.
