InSense WordPress Theme

Bloggingpro, one of the most popular blogger resource sites, has come up with their own theme this week. Titled “InSense”, it is a two column, widget ready theme with some nice rounded edges. Designed by Design Disease, the theme has a blue and orange color blend which together with the rounded edges and subtle lines, produce an eye pleasing output.
Right above the header we have some unique features here. On to the left there is a “skip to content” link (along with home and login links). Clicking on this link will take you to the heading of the very first post in the blog home page. A very simple yet useful feature. On to the right we have two links - “Normal” and “Large”. Click on these links and the width of the blog changes depending on what you clicked; not so simple but very unique.

Coming down we have the blog header. The text part is ordinary but blue header image with rounded edges and Web 2.0 like stripes looks nice.

Down below the header is our horizontal navigation bar. The links to static pages are displayed as buttons and again the white rounded edges on light blue background really increase it’s beauty. To the right of this nav bar are the buttons for Rss feeds for both entries and comments. Normally these buttons are featured on the sidebar or at the footer. But this particular placement gives more exposure to these otherwise forgotten options.

Then we come to the content items. To left of the content title is a borderless date box to show the published date. Below the title we have the author and category details. The datebox stands out, the rest - normal.

On the right we have the widgetized sidebar. Though it is widgetized, the developers reveal the search box can’t be repositioned. Not a glaring bug of any sort but some times we have to adjust with the limitations of the developers. Another issue is that the fancy icons used in category headers will vanish if widget is enabled. Again it is the limitation of the widget plugin. About the design aspect, the light orange rounded edged rectangles holding the sidebar entries, looks nice. It may not look that great alone but being part of the rest of the page it has a nice appealing look.

On the footer we have our usual copyright messages on a blueish rounded edge rectangle. But what is unusual is the blue cross cut on the right end of the copyright bar, which links back to Design Disease. But hey, it is no crime to give the designer the credits he/she deserve.

In the end, InSense is a wonderfully designed theme ideal for any kind of blogger. It is great to have powerful blogging networks like Bloggingpro coming forward and gift their users with excellent free themes.
