AqueousWP WordPress Theme

Ever since Upstart Blogger ported Aqueous Open Source theme from Six Shooter Media for Pligg, I was hoping one day it would happen for WordPress too. Looks like today is my lucky day. Navjot has successfully ported the theme for WordPress without compromising any features of the original.

It is a 3 column fluid width theme with support for sidebar widget and gravatars2 plugin. On top we have the blog header and search box without any fancy effects. Though the search box is a little big, it brings more visibility to the normally “invisible” tiny search boxes.

The horizontal navigation bar has been a direct port from the original theme including all the style sheet effects. It looks great on WordPress. A unique feature is the sub navigation bar located under the main navigation bar, which is hardly seen on blogs. Users probably will have to edit the template files in order to customize the sub nav.

Then we have the 3 column layout. The left column in black carries the standard sidebar components like categories, archives etc…The right column in silver has the recent posts and latest links. The center content column has a light gradient background which doesn’t hinder the visibility of the content items.

An interesting graphic idea which Navjot preserved from the original theme is the blue water drop that is located on the right side of every main section in the left navigation bar. It totally justifies the theme’s name - “Aqueous”.

As I was saying, it was a long wait from my part for a WordPress port of this wonderful open source theme. If the port happened a week back, I would have probably ended up using it for Theme Critic. But better late than never. The unique blend of blue, black and silver gradients has resulted in a visually pleasing experience. My thanks to Six Shooter Media for designing this wonderful theme and Navjot, you did a great job porting it to world’s most popular standalone blogging platform.

Guess I don’t have to finish my conversion now and release. One thing I noticed is that there’s a slight shift in the header when you mouse over the search box (at least on the demo site).

You were also working on the conversion? That’s sad. Don’t consider the effort as a wastage. When you get time, do some modifications to the theme; you know like integrating some Ajax effects, something like that.

And yes, I also noticed the shift. But that is due to the test site because Navjot, the developer, also uses that theme in his site and there it is working perfectly.

And btw, like I said, don’t stop finishing your port. Make it special by adding something of your own. I am sure you can do that.

I originally intended to port it for my own use, you can see it at my site. However I had a few people contact me about it, so I thought I’d make a public release. Now it’s not necessary, nor am I interested in “jazzing it up” outside of it’s intended use.

If anything, I was looking for a somewhat original look, thus adding different icons to the left sidebar, and removing the header search for placement in the sidebar.

Well that search box shifting is indeed a bug happening only in Firefox. I will fix it soon along with one more bug which I identified.

Update will come out in next 1 or 2 days.
