Million Pixels WordPress Plugin

In 2005 Alex Tew created history with his Million Dollar Homepage. Since then there have been many clone sites floating around the net, trying to exploit this concept. Now perhaps for the first time, this concept is being integrated to a blogging platform.

AdIcons for WordPress, as it is called, is a plugin that allows you to add a miniature million pixels grid to any part of your blog. One reason why none of the original MDH clones succeeded was that the page had just advertisement only, no real content. I mean who would want to come to a page full of ads (Alex Tew succeeded because his was the first site). This is where this WordPress plugin scores. The best way to integrate it is to place it in your sidebar. Of course you can’t sell a million pixels that way but this method will be far more appealing to webmasters than MDH. Because you have real content, you will get real visitors and so there are chances of getting more targeted hits.

Checkout the screenshot below. Notice where the plugin developer has positioned the pixel grid in his homepage.

The plugin has lots of configurable options. You can define the number of columns and rows on the grid. You can also set the price per slot. Visitors can click on an empty block and upload his small adicon (or favicon) using form shown below.

All submitted requests will be in approval pending mode (can be turned off). Once you get the payment, you can just approve it on the admin panel.

This plugin is very useful for bloggers who are selling links. Though the concept is based on MDH, one major difference I noticed is that in MDH, you can buy any number of pixels, join them and put up an ad, while with this plugin, you can buy only one block and upload your adicon. You can buy more blocks (if it is allowed in the options) but still the grid has visible column separators unlike MDH, which means it will still look like two separate blocks. But I think one block is more than enough and in that way visitors won’t feel your blog is stuffed with banners and leader boards.

AdIcons for WordPress is the first million dollar plugin for WordPress. You can download this free plugin from the developer’s site. Integrating it to your existing template is very easy as you need to add a single template tag to your sidebar.php.

First of all, thanks a lot for a wonderful review of my plugin :)

Yes, the concept’s very similar to MDH but I think this is much more fun. If you’re not into advertising etc you can still just use it for a blogroll.

The plugin is in a VERY alpha state now so there will be a lot of changes and additions. I’m open to all feature requests and suggestions.

One thing I want to add is, the adicons *can* be styled. It’s not documented yet but, there’s an “adicon” class in the plugin file so if you want, you can stick the blocks together :)

Using it for a blogroll seems like a great idea. I’ll probably wait for it to be out of “alpha” though. thanks

I just came across your blog and wanted to drop
you a note telling you how impressed I was with the information you have posted here, as well as from your members postings.
I know what I’m talking about when I say your site is top-notch! Keep up the great work, you are providing a great resource on the Internet here.

I would like to give a thumbs up for a new innovative website that offers similar ways to Advertise and not only That, it gives a free referral a great chance to make bucks as well.
This website, I believe, will be a new wave of advertising online.

I know that I wished that I had got a link on http://www.milliondollarhomepage.com/
where the last spot for advertising was sold on ebay for $38,100.00.

Flip This Image in a New and Unique form of this type of advertising and Referral site and will be a great new and fun way to advertise your Website or Business.

Great plugin, I will try to merge the pixel together without gap and borderline, I think that’s css gurus, nothing difficult, :)
