Pirates of the Caribbean WordPress Theme
Ahoy Mates!!! Captain Jack Sparrow is coming…eh…to WordPress, actually. Designed by Kate, Pirates of the Caribbean (POTC) WordPress Theme is a two colum, fixed width theme with a right sidebar. Based on the movie of the same name starring Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, the theme looks very much faithful to the original.
Right on the top, we have a magnificent header image welcoming us to the site. The header, consisting of a burning pirate ship on the left and pirate Johnny Depp on to the right, is a treat for every POTC fan. Well done!!!
Notice the distorted paper like borders on the header? Doesn’t it look a bit too much like some old pirate treasure map? Well, indeed it is. Kate has used her imagination to come up with something so relevant to the movie, yet it fits like a T to the theme.
Coming further down, we have our content items. Here on to the left of every post title is a pirate gold medallion. Again great use of imagination.

I noticed one issue here in Themes.WordPress.Net test site. May be it is on the test site only. I am not sure. In the first post, there is an embedded image which is aligned to the left. But the issue I noticed is that the image is lacking right padding or in other words it doesn’t have an invisible border which separates it from the post text. Now the picture is too close or even touching the text (check the screenshot below), which doesn’t look very good in my opinion. May be the author didn’t test run the theme with an image post. But this can be corrected by anyone who knows a bit of CSS; you just need to add a single line of padding code to the img tag. And I strongly request this shouldn’t be considered as a black mark on this wonderful work. It will take hours or days of work to come up with such a theme. But it will take only a minute to fix this image padding issue. The decision is yours.
The sidebar on the right is ordinary, other than the golden medallion. It has the typical sidebar elements like pages, categories, archives etc..with search box down at the bottom.
On the footer we have a footer art with the pirates and sea on the background. A fitting footer to the POTC theme indeed.
To conclude, Pirates of the Caribbean WordPress Theme is just what every POTC fan blogger wants. With the third movie in the series (Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End) getting ready to release on 25th of May 2007, now is the ideal time to release such a theme. Normally these kind of themes are custom developed by bloggers by paying a designer quite a good sum. But Kate has been very lenient by giving her work to the whole world for free. I am sure every POTC fan blogger is going to thank her for that.
PS: Here is a little bit of surprise for all. Kate is going to celebrate her 18th birthday (yea, you read it right, only 18) on the coming 19th. My advance birthday wishes for her, on behalf of themecritic.com. You have a bright future ahead as a theme designer.

The POTC theme seems to be being used by another person on other sites … not sure if it’s being stolen or if it’s you under a different name, kate. It’s an awesome theme and i’d hate to see someone else jocking it.
